What should I do if my pet has side effects from CBD?Updated 6 hours ago
Most pets tolerate CBD well. When side effects happen, they're usually mild and caused by starting with too much, too soon.
Common side effects
- Drowsiness or extra relaxation
- Loose stool or mild stomach upset
- Increased thirst
- Drooling or lip-licking (more common in cats)
What to do
- Pause CBD as soon as you notice side effects.
- Wait until your pet is back to normal. Mild side effects usually pass within a day.
- Restart with a smaller serving. After a week with no side effects, increase slowly until you see the results you want. See our CBD Dosing Guide for serving amounts by weight.
When to call your vet
Contact your vet right away if your pet:
- Is vomiting repeatedly or has ongoing diarrhea
- Is wobbly, stumbling, or unusually hard to wake
- Has tremors or seems disoriented
- Has side effects that last more than a day or get worse
- Takes prescription medication, since CBD can interact with some medications
